Figuratively. For my N/A 911 freunde(friends). A mournful farewell to my favorite ordinary 911 engines for my dark future.
With it, goes my dreams of ever wanting to buy a new 911(not that I could ever afford a new one at any point in my life, but still)...Be kind to me, future N/A 911 market :(

Think positive K-roll. Now is the perfect time to swap in a turbo motor! Also I hope you’re doing a bit better :)

There is nothing positive about an almost but pretty much all-turbo 911 lineup that I’ll never be able to afford for me.
I mellowed out slightly, but I’m still not in an ideal/good mood or mindset. And for what it’s worth, this didn’t help at all.

Phew, ok, I agree to the all turbo lineup part. I thought this post was saying your 911’s motor was toast!
Well, any improvement is a good improvement!

Trust me, none of this is “improvement”. If anything it’s temporary.

Boost is love, boost is life.
Worst case, find a basket case, and get cosworth to give the engine a once over and put on ITB’s. Done deal.

I love the 911 but sometimes I wish the 928 had replaced it as originally intended so there would be no need to tell “purists” to stick a sock in it for whining on about aircooled and now turbocharged engines.
If turbocharging truly ruins the cars, as you love to lament, then people won’t buy them. But they won’t ruin the cars, the cars will continue to be great and people will buy them. Deal with it.

XD.
Hows this for an idea. Take one (1) crashed honda goldwing 1800cc. Rip motor and trans out, and make your OWN mini 911? Its. 1800cc n/a flat 6 hooked up to a 5-speed with electric reverse. And sequential shifting

PLUS, better tuning potential and usually much stronger internals. I also like turbo noises.

NO
But I’d take that engine and do something else with it.

Nope. Sorry, but after they get rare enough, they are totally going to hit ‘Air cooled 911 Carrera’ levels of inflation. Anyone who can’t get one now is basically fucked.

Let’s get a little psychological right now. Ask yoruself this question - why does the change hurt your view of the 911 as a whole? I am a diehard 911 fanatic but it doesn’t really affect me in any negative sense. If anything, I like it. But that’s my viewpoint. So open the floor back to you - what about the 911 being NA makes it important? Why is that the sticking point in your mind?

Why? And it doesn’t hurt my view as a whole, just new 911s do. Hell, it was mildly hit when I first sat in a 991. I didn’t think for a second that I was sitting in a 911, I was sitting in a damn Panamera coupe. It may have looked close enough, and sounded close enough, but there was no nostalgia, no memories, I felt no joy or bliss or familiarity in that car.
But why? Because the definitive car of my childhood is no longer what I want it to be; it’s something else. The car I fell in love with growing up is no longer that car now, it’s something completely different in just about everything single way, but enough ways for me to know it’s never going to be the same. And I’m not gonna be like every single happy go-lucky progressive person and just accept what I can’t control. I’m not gonna blindly follow the herd, I refuse.
And if Porsche did this of their own accord, I’d be more than okay with it. But you and I know damn well why they did this even if there is nothing tangible to truly be gained from this based on the reason alone they made this move.
But of course no one will ever truly understand my reasonings, I’m just a god damn Philistine, a dinosaur in the body of a kid.

That is actually a very well thought out reasoning.....You are admitting it isn’t a tangible number or stat. It is what the loss represents. To that I say - they would have found some other way to disappoint you. I do NOT like the 964 outside of the RS America. My childhood memory, my “nostalgia” is a bright red on black late 80s 3.2. It is the first car i ever remember “sitting” in. But I can appreciate and admire all the 911s before and after for what they are on their own terms. TO me, the 911 isn’t a panamera coupe, the panamera is the 911 in sedan form. The spirit and lessons that have been brought forth by the 911 program are infused into an otherwise stale sedan “me too” type to give it an identity.
So there is only one option - study up, work hard, buy the porsche that YOU like, and rock it the way only you know how to do. Anything less is a betrayal of the dream. Hell I remmeber a year ago on this site I brought out a little 911 “buying” guide for the 80s 911s and I think Noah was the one who pointed out that the red on black ones are cheap because they are common. My response? PERFECT! It isn’t about “value” for me. The identity of my 911 was thatred on black and if it is the cheap way? Wonderful. Lock yourself into that. Ignore value. Value has you chasing an imperfect car for the driver. Your perfect 911 will be attainable at some level. Not as attainable as say a mustang GT. But given what it is and what the other alternatives are, your “ideal” 911 will be a cheaper 911 to own by nature of what it is.

Because there’s no positivity I want to absorb, none of it would ever be enough, and any positive things that are worth something, I’m completely ignoring because it’s simply not a good time.

I think? I can get in a 997 and feel childhood feelings, but not in a 991. Also, look at this:
2010 997
2010 Panamera
2012 991
Now I ask you, which one followed who? They didn’t even try to make them the slightest bit different. Hell, the 911’s interior looked different enough from the 944, 924, and 928, so why not here??
But you’re missing my main point. There isn’t enough time to study up, work hard, and buy another Porsche I like. The damn world is moving too fast with technology and economy and other shit, and I can’t catch up no matter what I do. If I was born maybe 10 years earlier, maybe I’d have a chance, but not now, and probably never at this rate.

I don’t have much lust for modern Porsches but I want to own an air cooled 911 (maybe a ‘78). But it seems that the prices are too much for me. I hope the price bubble would burst soon...

Who cares? New cars aren’t for drivers and they haven’t been for a few years now. Old cars like your 944 and your old man’s 911 are where it’s at.
